Monopoly
Monopoly traces its roots back to The Landlord's Game, created by Lizzie Magie in 1904 to highlight the dangers of land monopolies. Popularised by Charles Darrow, the game was bought and commercialised by Parker Brothers from 1935 onwards, before being taken over by Hasbro. Now a timeless classic, it invites players to buy, build and negotiate their way to ruining their opponents and dominating the board.
More than a billion people have played Monopoly across 114 countries and 47 languages since 1935 (Hasbro figures).
